RUN2VC - London - 7th September

Last week I had a crazy idea.

I want to get packs of my Org Chart playing cards into the hands of early stage Venture Capital firms.

I believe that the cards are a useful tool in discussions between VC firms and founders in either pre-investment or post-investment companies.

  • Discussions about the current and future GTM team structure

  • Advice on future hierarchies

  • Lessons learned from other portcos

  • Prioritising key hires

To really get a feel for the cards and how you might use them on a boardroom table you need to have them in your hands.

So on Friday I thought, the quickest way to get them distributed is for me to take them there myself.

And having looked at the office locations, running around them on foot will be quicker than trying to use the tube.

On Thursday 7th September I am going to run around 20 early stage VC firms in London.

My plan is to knock on the door and simply drop off a pack of the cards, ideally opening the pack and giving a quick suggestion of how to use them.

I’ll also hand over a physical copy of my “Series A Founder’s Guide to Revenue Operations” and then I’ll be on my way to the next stop!

The route is 17km long, and takes in some wonderful sights of London on my journey.

RevOpsCharlie - RUN2VC Route Map

Who’s on the route?

I’ve chosen a set of 20 firms that invest in and around Series A:

  • Accel

  • Amadeus Capital

  • Atomico

  • Balderton

  • Bethnal Green Ventures

  • Blossom Capital

  • Dawn Capital

  • DN Capital

  • Eight Roads

  • Fuel Ventures

  • Highland Europe

  • Index Ventures

  • InMotion Ventures

  • Kennet Partners

  • Lakestar

  • MMC

  • Northzone

  • Notion Capital

  • Octopus Ventures

There are a lot of ‘what if’s’ in this idea!

  • What if there is no-one in the office? I’m assuming that at least the reception will be staffed.

  • What if no-one wants to speak? I’m only doing a delivery not asking for a meeting.

  • What if I am sweating? Well I will be, so I’ll have to hope I don’t get thrown out.

Why am I doing this?

Well I ask myself that question a lot!

My target ICP is a Series A founder - they’ve recently received funding and are looking for guidance and support as they build out a repeatable and predictable revenue engine.

A key partner to those Series A founders are the VC firms that have just, or are just about to invest in them.

If early stage Venture Capital funds understand how I help their portcos increase the chance of a venture scale outcome then they will introduce me to their founders.

A good way for me to achieve that is using the Org Chart cards to demonstrate the strategic nature of the work I do - helping founders structure their GTM model for scale.

Above all else, it will be fun - and what better way to understand the lay of the land in the London VC community than visiting all of their offices in one day!

Wish me luck

I will write up the experience with some photos afterwards, but in the meantime, wish me luck and I hope it generates some interesting conversations on Thursday.

Just got to deal with some long awaited heat on the day!

Want some cards yourself?

If you would like some Org Chart cards and aren’t on my route, then you can order some directly from here:
